Beauty Buzz: Weekly Deals 6/5-6/11

This is a very bad week for beauty deals.  There are some sales, but I refuse to pay more than 20% of the retail price since I have a good stockpile of items.  Hopefully next week will be better!

Haul: Weekly Deals 5/22-5/28

MONEY SPENT:        $36.99
RETAIL PRICE:                   $250.32
MONEY SAVED:                  $213.33

Normally this week wouldn't have been that great, but I happened upon a mini clearance event at CVS.  About once a year CVS does a big clearance on makeup and they mark down discontinued or older lot numbers of certain makeup items to either 50% or 75% - and there's usually A LOT to choose from.  These sales are great because you can pick up a ton of different products for supercheap (check out this and this).  As I said, this was only a mini clearance so there wasn't a lot tagged, but I did get a few items (mostly L'Oreal).

I bought a L'Oreal Visible Lift pressed powder compact and three concealers, three L'Oreal Lash Out mascaras and three Almay Dial-Up mascaras.  Luckily I had some $3/1 Visible Lift coupons (that I never thought I'd use - these are normally $13+), $2/1 L'Oreal Eye coupons and $2/1 any Almay coupons.  What did I pay for all 10 items?  Just $2.67.  :-)

Also at CVS, Revlon nail polishes were $4.99 with $4 in ECB.  Paired with a $1/1 coupon, I got 6 yummy scented polishes in some beautiful colors for FREE!  Biore cleansers and porestrips were on sale for $7.99 each and when you bought 2 you got $5 back in ECB.  Using a BOGO coupon I had (there was a sale on these at RiteAid a couple weeks ago and I had an extra coupon) I got both the pore strips and cleanser for $2.99.  And with summer here, razors and accessories are on sale everywhere and there's a ton of coupons floating around for them.  I picked up two Schick Intuition razors and two Skintimate Shave Gels (raspberry scented!) for just $11.36.

RiteAid and Walgreens had similar razor sales, and between both of those stores I ended up with three Schick Quattro cartridges, two Schick Intuition cartridges and two more of the Skintimate Shave Gels for just $20.03 - considering how expensive razors and cartridges are this is a great deal!

Haul: Weekly Deals 5/15-5/21

MONEY SPENT:        $38.57
TOTAL PRODUCTS:           $158.97
MONEY SAVED:                 $120.40

This week wasn't the best one for beauty deals as I only got a couple "free" items and it was just whitening toothpaste.  The makeup and skincare sales were pretty sparse this week as were the hair products but I managed to get a few random things.

There weren't any great sales for makeup this week, but at CVS I did manage to pick up three L'Oreal mascaras for a little over $2 each.  My favorite item this week was Physicians Formula concealer; all the foundations, powders, blushes, bronzers and concealers were on sale this week for $6 off.  Most of these are $12+ but the concealers retail for between $7 & $8 so on sale I managed to pick up 6 of them for $1.79 each - and I luckily had some $1 off coupons so I paid just $4.74 for enough concealer to last me a year!

I got the majority of my items at RiteAid this week, including 2 tubes of Crest Whitening toothpaste for $0.  Tresemme hair care was also on sale so I picked up 4 big bottles for less than $1 each.  The weird item of the week that I bought was BC powdered aspirin at just $2.99 a box.  Why did I buy this and why do I consider it a beauty product?  It makes a great face mask!  I use 2 packets mixed with a little lemon juice or honey and it tightens and exfoliates.  There's 50 packets in a box, so that's just $0.12 a mask.

Walgreens had a similar sale on BC as well as Goody's (same product, different brand) for $1 more so I picked up a few boxes there as well.

Overall, this wasn't too bad of a week.  $38 is more than I typically like to spend in a week but I got a lot of stuff I'll be able to use for months.

P4P Weekly Preview 5/16/11

Well, I've had kind of a rough start on this blog as well as with my YouTube channel.  I've had some computer issues, time constraints and my typically bad luck and myriad of other responsibilities.  I'm doing my best to get things up and running and hopefully I will get all caught up this week.  I'm working on posting more videos and getting together more products to review.  I've also got a few more ideas in the works so look forward to that in the near future.

This week I hope to post a Cover Girl neutral eye tutorial as well as a smoky eye tutorial.  I'm actually working on a couple nail tutorials as I type this (and I'm trying desperately not to get polish on my beautiful new computer!) and I'm surrounded with all kinds of products I can't wait to review.  I really loved my first review of the Revlon CustomEyes line so I'm excited to do some more.  I am also planning to post my first contest this week with a fun giveaway for my YouTube subscribers (if you haven't subscribed yet, please do so here!).

I know I'm posting kind of haphazardly, but I'm trying to get on a regular schedule so hopefully once I catch up it'll be smooth sailing...unless I jinxed myself by saying that.  :-)

Review: Revlon CustomEyes Collection - Eye Shadow Palettes & Mascara

Eyeshadow palettes are a hugely popular cosmetic item because of their versitility, and Revlon has released a new collection of 6 different palettes along with an "adjustable" mascara that is also available in a waterproof version.  With the growing popularity of high-end cosmetics, many drugstore brands are releasing better quality, pricier lines of cosmetics to appeal to customers.  CustomEyes appears to be Revlon's newest foray into this competitive market.  The palettes as well as the mascara retail for around $8.99 in stores.

The quality of these palettes vary, as some of them are far more pigmented than others (these vary within the palettes as well).  The colors schemes are fairly diverse, but almost all are shimmery.  All of them blend easily without much fallout.  They wear okay (some get a little muddy after awhile) with little or no creasing and last all day long.

Sweet Innocence (010) is the only one of the palettes with a couple matte colors.  This is a pink & neutrals palette, and the pigmentation is good although hard to see  in the swatches since I'm so pale.  They would probably show up well on darker skin.  It was a good combination of colors and great for someone looking for a neutral combo with a little something extra.

Party Pops (015) looks pretty in the palette as well as swatched - it looks like an Easter egg!  Unfortunately, it is awful applied to the eye.  I'm not sure if the pigmentation is bad or the colors just clash, but it looks like a muddy mess.  Yes, I tried it a couple different times with the same result.  I do not recommend this one because the colors are...weird.

Naturally Glamorous (020) is far and away my favorite of the shadow palettes.  The colors are b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l!!!  I'm a huge fan of golds and bronzes so I may be biased, but this is a gorgeous palette of shimmery goodness.  The colors are perfectly matched and look amazing together.  I also think this is the most pigmented of the all the palettes, so if you want a subtle golden look use a light hand.

Metallic Chic (025) reminds me of the 1970's.  Burnt orange, harvest gold, avacado green and that strange periwinkle blue that you only seem to be able to find in polyester blends.  Suprisingly, I didn't really mind this palette on my eye but maybe that's because it reminds me of this hideous couch my parents used to have in this house when I was a kid and it made me kinda nostalgic.  Again...weird.

Rich Temptations (030) is a palette full of purpley colors - and a weird sage green.  I actually like that green color but not with the purples!  This palette also isn't very pigmented, so like the "Easter egg" it ended up looking muddy.  The colors are pretty and I love a purple eye but this didn't work for me.

Smoky Sexy (035) is my second favorite of the palettes.  Like the bronzey palette, this one has five colors that are perfectly matched and well pigmented.  I thought I would hate this palette (it's actually the last one I bought) because I'm not a fan of blue eyeshadows even though these are very pretty shades of the color.  I think the appearance of the palette is kinda deceiving because once applied the colors look almost gray with just a hint of blue.

The mascara comes in regular or waterproof (I have the waterproof) and the coolest part about it is the brush which you can adjust by twisting the handle to have either long & dramatic or long & defined lashes.  To be honest, I'm not at all picky about mascaras so I'm probably not the best judge, but I liked this one.  It wasn't clumpy, didn't flake, went on easy and didn't smudge as the day wore on.  I didn't notice much difference between the two "settings" but it is a cool feature.
